I have recently had the great pleasure of offering a presentation on network marketing in general. I debunked some network marketing myths and drew some comparisons with so-called traditional business. I loved it and the response was favourable, so I though I would share some of it here.
Every one's first question to network marketers is "Is it a pyramid". My answers is...good question! Thank you for asking! Then a resounding no! Pyramid selling is not only ILLEGAL but it usually doesn't provide a product and the person or people at the top are the ONLY ones who make good money. Eventually these business either disappear or get busted, and the people at the bottom lose money.
Network marketing is certainly LEGAL! It also provides a product or service. In fact, the products or services you get through networking are usually of a higher quality than the ones you will get in retail. You may not even be able to buy them at retail. Network marketing companies choose this business for a reason. For example: If Xocai, The Healthy Chocolate was sold at Wal Mart, and you went into the store and asked for it, some nice "older gentleman" in a blue smock would point to aisle 26, or whatever. Network marketers use the product and love it. I could tell you that Xocai is the highest anti-oxidant food in the world because of our cold pressing technology and our use of the acai berry. I can tell you that is has no caffeine, no dairy, no gluten, no processed sugar. I can tell you that it helps lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol, that it lowers blood pressure and that it reduces platelet aggregation. Not to even mention the myriad of other health benefits! We know people who no longer have irritable bowel, eczema and migraines. Mr. Blue Smock doesn't know these things!
As for who can earn the most money. In network marketing, EVERYONE has the same opportunity for earning potential! E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E! It all depends on work ethic, enthusiasm and commitment.
While we're on the topic of pyramids, let's talk about major corporations. Let me first say that obviously major corporations are a necessary part of our society. I LOVE major corporations...heck, I work for one of the largest ones in the country. But let's look at the structure of major corporations. At the top you have the CEO...then maybe a president, several vice-presidents, some senior managers, supervisors, administrators...the list goes on. What happens as you get farther down that list? The salaries get smaller. And what are the chances that you are ever going to make more money than the next person up on the organizational chart? Non existant would be my guess. You have to wait for the next person up to get promoted, quit or die before you can get into that corner office and start making the big bucks. The next question is, how many hours does the person in the corner office work per week?
In network marketing, you can out-earn your sponsor, your sponsor's sponsor and so on. It's all up to you. That's not hype. It's the simple truth. If you have more front line distributors and are more diligent at recruiting and training, you can move ahead faster than anyone in your organization. Where else can you do that? And besides, after a couple of years of hard work, you can take it much easier and have more time freedom because of the financial freedom you have earned!
How about "traditional" smaller businesses. Again...I love them! I shop in them all the time and I am very, VERY proud of my friends who have them! But let's just say you are opening your own "traditional" business. First you have to find a building and either buy or lease. Then you have to have inventory, hire staff, pay light bills, power bills, telephone bills, do book keeping, keep track of your inventory and re-order...the list goes on and on and on! And how long does it normally take to break even? 2 to 5 years maybe?
In network marketing you work out of your home so there is no building to buy or lease. I have my desk set up next to a kitty condo in my spare bedroom! There is generally little or no inventory, no staff to manage, no books to keep. In many companies, you are on auto-ship, so you don't even have to worry about re-ordering products for your own use. All this, and just like a "traditional" business, everything gets written off on your taxes...in my case, even the chocolate I eat at least 3 times a day!
So with all of this information, why are people still so reluctant. I think it's because not everyone has this information. I didn't. I have resisted network marketing for years. Now I know the difference, and I am so glad I do. Sure it's not for everyone. What the heck is? But for entrepreneurs, it's certainly a worthwhile consideration!
